Mercy Ships is united by a strong set of values with beliefs that have inspired our actions since the first Mercy Ships voyage.

Our hospital ship, the Africa Mercy concentrates in providing free medical care to those nations in West Africa currently rated at the bottom of the Human Development Index.

What is your project and how will it help?

Mercy Ships evolved back in 1978 as a NGO to provide free urgent medical procedures and community development services to the world’s forgotten poor using hospital ships.

This brilliant idea came about as a way to deliver a first class service in third world environments absent of the basics such as clean water, electricity, roads and habitable buildings, sometimes as the result of many years of war.
The crew of our hospital ship, the Africa Mercy are all volunteers bringing with them their expertise as surgeons, doctors, nurses, dentists, engineers, catering and cleaners; in fact, not only do they volunteer, they also have to raise their own funds to serve through sponsorship.

The types of medical procedures we specialise in are maxillofacial, cataracts, women’s child birth injuries, orthopaedic and dental.

To many thousands of people, Mercy Ships represents the difference between life and death.

The refrigerators that we are seeking are required to be fitted into our guest cabins for visiting donors and volunteers.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

Mercy Ships try to engage with corporate and private donors for the provision of everything you can imagine would be required by a floating hospital ship.
