The Société Générale - GERES partnership on sustainable development projects

Teams from Société Générale’s Equity Derivatives department have partnered with the French NGO GERES (Renewable energies, Environment and Solidarities Group), a non-profit association established in 1976 after the first oil crisis. GERES leads innovative sustainable development projects in France and in eight countries in Africa and Asia. The partnership was signed on September 2008.

GERES acts primarily on production conditions, sustainable use of forest energy, development of renewable energies and waste treatment. As an example, GERES intervenes in mountain environments (Afghanistan and India) with actions promoting greenhouse vegetable farming and agricultural conservation techniques (potatoes and fruits). To cite another example, thanks to the support of GERES, 150,000 families in Cambodia now use energy-saving cooking equipment.

Thanks to this partnership, Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking supports the activities of the GERES brand through equity derivatives products. SG CIB will pay around 10% of the management fees of the invested nominal in the 100% Sustainable Development certificates range products.
